Omar Nishnianidze, a former Member of Parliament from the Georgian Dream party and a professor of ancient history has been constructing a boat to revive the ancient Greek myth of the Argonauts to make a new tourist route in western Georgia.
The name of the boat is Argo, just like in the mythology of Argonauts who came to the ancient Georgian kingdom of Colchis. The journey of Nishnianidze’s boat started from Poti, the coastal town of Georgia in May and ended on June 2 in Vani.
According to him, he also plans on establishing the Museum of Argonautica in Kutaisi, the former capital and the second largest city of Georgia, on the banks of Rioni River. He also says that the boat will be placed in the courtyard of the museum.
