Georgia cancels direct flights from China

03 February 2020

To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Georgia temporarily cancels direct flights from and to China until March 29, reported to the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency (GCAA).

Chinese airline company China Southern and aviation authorities have been notified about the flight cancellation.

China Southern carried out direct flights three times a week on the route Beijing-Urumqi-Tbilisi. The flights were canceled on Jan 25-27.

The virus first emerged in Wuhan, China, in late 2019. It causes severe acute respiratory infection, and symptoms mostly start with a fever, followed by a dry cough.

The coronavirus has already caused over 100 deaths in China and spread to at least 16 other countries.

It is believed that the virus started from the illegal trade of wildlife at a seafood market in the Chinese town.

The incubation period ranges from two to 10 days.
