The Great Silk Road
Georgia was part of the Great Silk Road that connected Europe to Asia, therefore, you’ll be able to visit some of the most important historical sites along the road. The tour includes visiting Mtkheta and Jvari Monastery. The latter sits at the top of the hill overlooking Mtskheta and junction of Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. Jvari Monastery is one of the oldest religious buildings in Georgia. . It is believed that when St. Nino, the evangelist who brought Christianity to the country, made the citizens believe in her religion, King Mirian put a wooden cross here. The name “Jvari” means “cross” in English.
Additionally, you’ll visit the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, one of the most important religious site and an architectural masterpiece of Early Middle Ages.
Then, you’ll drive to Gori, the birthplace of Joseph Stalin and visit his house museum before going and exploring Uplistsikhe, the rock-hewn cave town that features architectural marvels of different periods including, pre-Christian, Anatolian, and Iranian.
